*  These  candidates  won  the  Amy  Mills  Robertson  prize  for  the  highest  grades  6  to  8  practical  exam results  for that  years  entry.

**  Helena Meldrum  gained 137 marks  out  of  150  for her  grade  5  exam,  before  her  14th birthday.  Helena  had  previously  been awarded  a  music  scholarship  for  her  secondary  education.

 These  are  some  of  the  results  that  our  students  have  achieved  over  the  years.  At  a  later  date  we  hope  to be  able  to  include  all of  our  exam  results.

  Examinations  are  certainly  not  compulsory,  but  they  do  give  students  an  opportunity  to  perform.  The  experience  is  very  similar  to the  concert platform and candidates  have  a  chance  to have their  musicianship  assessed in front  of  the  highest  level  musicians in  the country.  For  more  information  about  the  Associated  Board  of  the  Royal  Schools  of  Music  examinations  please  visit  www.abrsm.co.uk .  The  exams  may  take  place  in  our  premises  or  at  the  Sunderland  exam center (St Johns Church, Ashbrooke).

  Music  lessons  in  Sunderland  schools  often  involve  a  child  having  to  leave  a  class  to attend  a  group  session.  This  means  the  child  may  miss out  on  important  subjects  to  have  a  shared  lesson  with  other  students  of  varying  abilities.  Although  the  lessons  are  not  shared  at Associated  Music  Teachers and therefore  the  price  is  not  shared, it  often  works  out  more  economical  as  the  student  is  less likely to quit  lessons  through  the  boredom  of  waiting  for  other  class members  to catch  them  up.
